ABOUT UMIMORI

Clear explanations need sound sources.

How we build, check and update our learning materials.

Start with primary sources

We use material from organisations such as the Japan Coast Guard, Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), Japan Lifesaving Association, JAMSTEC and Ministry of the Environment. We consider the scope and conditions of each source and publish reference links and a source-check date with every lesson. Citing an organisation does not mean it has reviewed this site.

Keep the conditions with the guidance

Sea conditions and people’s swimming ability and strength differ. We do not label a real place safe based on a simple diagram or general explanation. Current official information and local instructions take priority.

Current review status

These materials are initial drafts. Safety specialist review has not yet taken place. Before public launch, our policy is to obtain appropriate specialist review and check understanding with children, parents and teachers. The English version also needs language review; we do not claim a native-speaking editor has approved it.

AI helps with production; sources support facts

AI assists with wording and production. Illustrative images are not treated as photographic records, and diagrams explain what they leave out. AI output alone is not evidence for a scientific or safety claim.

Update when the content needs it

Even foundational topics can be affected by changing sources or safety recommendations. After launch, we plan to review sources every six months and revisit significant safety changes as they become known. We will not change dates simply to make content look new.

When correcting an error, we check affected articles, diagrams and any related printable material. We also check both language versions and record the correction. See how to report an error.
